以土为阶，以茅盖屋。比喻屋舍简陋。《汉・扬雄・逐贫赋》：“昔我乃祖，宗其明德。克佐帝尧，誓为典则。土阶芧茨，匪雕匪饰。”亦作“茅茨土阶”、“茅屋土阶”、“土阶茅屋”。
